Parents Resource – Whānau Activities

Our centre is all about whānau, tamariki, kaiako and community. As our centre grows, so will our opportunities for whānau to connect, contribute and be involved. Parents and whānau are warmly welcomed to join our committee and take part in current and new initiatives throughout the year.

Activities our Whānau can enjoy:

• Annual Matariki Celebration – Each year, we come together as a centre to celebrate Matariki and embrace the values of whakawhanaungatanga, manaakitanga, aroha and community. Our celebration may look different each year, creating opportunities for tamariki, whānau and kaiako to come together through kai, waiata, karakia, music and shared experiences. In 2026, we celebrated Matariki with a special Matariki Disco Night, bringing our community together for an evening of fun, connection and celebration.
• Whānau Working Bee – At PolyHigh, the small things make a big difference in helping our centre thrive. Our Whānau Working Bee is a wonderful opportunity to come together, meet new and current whānau, and contribute to our centre. From hammering nails and painting to sanding old furniture, it is a fun way to work together, kōrero and share stories.
• Fundraising Initiatives – Our fundraising activities provide opportunities for whānau, tamariki and our wider community to come together while supporting our centre and causes that are important to us. Fundraising can take many forms, including class photos, Whānau Garage Sales, cupcake sales and other creative initiatives. There are always new ideas and opportunities for whānau to get involved, and we welcome your suggestions and support.
• AGA Meetings –  Our Annual General Assembly Meetings provide an opportunity for whānau to come together, stay informed about what is happening at our centre, share ideas and contribute to the ongoing development of our community.
• Kapa Haka Showcasing – PolyHigh continues to embrace the voices and talents of our tamariki through our Kapa Haka journey. Kapa Haka provides opportunities for tamariki to develop pride, mana, courage and confidence while learning waiata, movement and cultural practices. In 2025, our Tūī Room tamariki proudly showcased three waiata at Te Papa – Kapa Haka Kura, celebrating their learning and sharing it with the wider community.
